Overview

Tara Singh Param is an experienced litigator, labor and employment attorney and trial lawyer in Holland & Knight's Philadelphia office. Ms. Param has represented publicly traded and privately held companies in the following matters:

  • high-stakes/high-profile litigation
  • employment discrimination and retaliation claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (Title VII), 42 U.S.C. § 1981 (Section 1981), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and their state counterparts
  • wrongful termination, tortious interference and breach of contract claims
  • Title IX claims against institutions of higher education
  • wage and hour claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • whistleblower claims under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Pennsylvania Whistleblower Law and New Jersey Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA)
  • crisis management strategy

As a trial lawyer, Ms. Param has tried cases to verdict in federal court and before an administrative law judge (ALJ) with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

Ms. Param advises clients on personnel decisions, accommodation requests, leave of absences, harassment claims, terminations and disciplines, Title IX compliance for education clients, and other legal compliance issues. Ms. Param has also prepared and updated handbooks for a number of her corporate clients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she provided advice and counseling to companies concerning the vaccination and mask requirements and return-to-work planning.

Additionally, Ms. Param conducts trainings for company employees and human resources departments. Ms. Param has also conducted several Title IX sexual harassment trainings for higher education and academic medical center clients.

Ms. Param also dedicates a portion of her practice to pro bono matters, currently representing a client with the Pennsylvania Innocence Project.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Param worked as an attorney at large international law firms in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, where she defended corporations in various types of employment litigation.

While in law school, Ms. Param served as president of the Briggs Society of International Law and was managing editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. Ms. Param also participated in the Attorneys for Children Clinic, where she assisted with the representation of children and parents in family law matters involving child abuse and neglect, parental rights and custody.
